Echocardiography Online

Author: Michael Bustamante

Online Echocardiography Schools offer online programs for gaining certificates and degrees in the field. Echocardiography focuses on imaging heart and cardiovascular functions. Students juggling a career, family, and other obligations don't have to leave home to study, but are able to earn the same degree online as students in on-campus programs. Online echocardiography university and college program students often are able to enjoy learning with students in the program through shared online venues, as classroom technology connects students and faculty with one another for interactive discussion and study.

Online echocardiography education integrates accepted principles with cutting edge technology to develop quality leadership in their students through quality accredited programs of study.

Students of echocardiography can expect to study basic courses in anatomy, physiology, and pathology; echocardiographic pattern recognition; ultrasound scanning techniques of the heart; and congenital heart diseases as relate to the practice of adult echocardiography. Students should be presented with current theory and scanning techniques for medical sonography; Doppler imaging techniques; and vascular and cerebral vascular diseases. Advanced degrees in echocardiography will be presented with issues relating to clinical practicum in echocardiology and vascular technology.

Degreed techonologists with specialties in echocardiography perform noninvasive tests using ultrasound instruments. Echocardiography technicians use equipment that directs high-frequency sound waves toward specific areas of the patient's body and read echoes of the sound waves that bounce back and form an image on a screen. Echocardiographers view and record those images for review and diagnosis by physicians. Echocardiography technicians monitor visual images for subtle differences between healthy and affected areas of the body, select equipment settings, perform echocardiography procedures, and explain procedures to patients.

Echocardiography professionals work primarily in hospitals and private laboratory settings, with standard 40-hour weeks being common.

Hands-on experience in laboratory course(s) may be required for certification or a degree in this field of study. Be sure to inquire whether or not classroom requirements for certification or a degree in this field of study is an option at your school of choice.
