Travel Tips for Honeymooners

Author: Lee Joe

Attention to the following details can make a difference between having an OK honeymoon and a great one.

1. Book a late flight the morning after the wedding, when possible.

2. Know what your budget is and work within these limits. If money is tight, look into an all-inclusive resort, where you know ahead of time what you'll spend. Many resorts sound reasonably priced until you add up all the extra charges. Checkout time can be a mind blower.

3. Book the best room you can afford. Complaints from honeymooners tend to focus on the quality of their accommodations.

4. Ask about bed size. In some parts of the world, double beds may be smaller than what you expect. In Europe you'll find a lot of twin-bedded rooms, so if you're Europe-bound, you might want to ask for a "matrimonial bed."

5. Both the bride and the groom should take part in deciding where to go and how much to spend.

6. Unless you want to keep your honeymoon a secret, let the hotel know ahead of time that you are newly married (your travel agent can do this for you), Honeymooners often enjoy special perks, such as champagne and breakfast in bed.

7. If is often helpful to be in the travel agent's office while your room is being booked so that you can answer any special questions the hotel might have.

8. If being directly on the beach overlooking the water is very important to you, make sure the hotel and the room you book are just that. Sometimes properties advertised as "beachfront hotels" are in reality not right on the beach, but close by. Rooms may also have a view of the garden instead of the water.

9. ASk about the best way to get from the airport to you resort. Are you being met? Do you need to look for someone in particular? How much is a taxi or van service?

10. If you are renting a car, find out ahead of time about insurance requirements. Check with your credit card company to see if you are covered by collision damage waiver.

11. Check what travel documentation you will need and get everything in order. Carry two forms of photo identification in two separate places. If you lose one you'll still be able to get on the plane with the other. Remember, a valid photo ID is required to board. No ID, no flight.

12. On international travel it is good to fax hotels a few days before your arrival date to reconfirm your arangements. This is particular important when the booking was made well in advance. This is one vacation you want to make sure runs like clockwork. Your travel agent should do this for you, but be sure to request that it be done.

13. I highly recommend purchasing trip cancellation insurance. If you have to cancel for any reason (heaven forbid), you'll get your deposit back. Ask your travel agent about this.

14. If you are tavelling to a place such as Africa or the South Pacific, check with your doctor or local health authority to find out if you need any special inoculations or medicines to take either prior to or during your trip. In some areas you must show proof that you are up to date on certain disease-preventing immunizations (e.g. yellow fever and malaria) in order to enter the country.

15. If you are not leaving for your vacation destination until a day or two after your wedding, you may want to stay at a relaxing, romantic inn on your first night. Most couples find they are quite exhausted after the festivities and need some time to unwind.

16. Book you airline seats at the same time you make plane reservations. This is also the time to order special meals of you have any dietary restrictions.

We hope this travel tip will help you to have a unforgettable honeymoon.
